After a successful 2010-2011 season that finished with great weather the 2011 -2012 Nipper season is now on at BHMP. All the Nippers especially the younger u/8, u/9 and u/10 loved the perfect conditions at the end of the season that allowed them to show what great surf and beach skills they had learnt during the season.
We look forward to another good year with ever present support from our Club Captain and his Patrol Captains, Kellie Huth our Surf Girl entrant (and Club Chief Training Officer), the Management Committee, the “Old Lifesavers” and of course our Nipper Committee, Age Group Leaders and coaches. There is always room for more volunteers as we are all volunteers. Why not get a qualification this year as a parent as an official or Bronze medallion to do water safety? There are also jobs with helping in the uniform shop, our BBQ and setting up for Sunday Nippers. Come and ask one of the committee what you can do to help.
The Sunday Nippers will again this year work towards gaining an award that shows what they have learnt for the season with the younger kids learning about how the beach patrol’s work and safety at the beach. The older Nippers are starting to learn resuscitation and CPR. Living near the beach these are life skills these Nippers will never forget and will give them the knowledge how to be safe at the beach. Our aim at Nippers is to provide a safe learning environment to be safe at the beach. Of course we also hope that one day the Nippers go on to become Patrol members for BHMP and keep our beach safe for future Nippers.
Our competition squad will again be strong this year with the theme the Barracuda’s Strike Back. After three years of winning the State Titles we finished in the top three not far from first. With all our coaches having Gold Medallists within their ranks over the last few year, Ty (water coach), Denis (beach coach), Nev and Anita (march past and R & R) and Peter (Champion Lifesaver). All these coaches have had their Nippers win Gold medals in the last two seasons. If any Nippers want to be part of the competitive side we have some of the best coaches of any club. If you are not a good swimmer/board paddler or flags/sprinter please try our March Past, R & R or Champion Lifesaving squads these even are not generally won by the fastest swimmers or runners and give anyone who wish to train hard enough a chance to succeed.
Once again this season our success will depend on how much the parents get behind our club. Without the parents getting involved our Nippers cannot compete at carnivals without Officials or water safety. They cannot get into the water at training or Sunday Nippers without water safety parents. The beach needs to be set up, the BBQ needs helpers and the social function we need parents and Nippers to come along and having fun (the last one is easy). What other sport can you be so involved with your kids, swimming with them, being a turn point in the water for the younger kids they love you being involved and parents it is alot of fun, more fun than standing on the beach watching, this season get wet, get sandy, get involved. See you on the beach and hopefully in the water.
