Welcome to Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park Surf Life Saving Club

Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park Surf Life Saving Club was formally founded in 1923. Since then we have developed and grown as an integral Surf Life Saving Club on the Gold Coast, which now has in excess of 1200 members.

In this past 2011/2012 season it is estimated that nearly 120,000 people visited Burleigh Beach. Our volunteer patrolling members put in 7,094 hours of their own time to watch, protect and save these visitors which resulted in another fatality free season between the flags at Burleigh.

This past season saw our patrolling members successfully complete over 50 rescues and treat members of the public in almost 230 first aid cases, 9 of these being major first aid.

Future Development - Stage 4

The Club lodged a material Change of Use Application with the Gold Coast City Council in July 2012 which in principle sought approval for a third level multipurpose area for training, education, workshops, seminars and meetings.

The third level comprises a floor area of 214m2 and two terrace areas of 50m2 and 37m2 positioned in both a north and east aspect overlooking Burleigh Beach and the adjacent Justins Park. The Club facility is to be serviced by the existing lift for easy access and also has male and female toilet facilities.

The facilities will be constructed over the existing restaurant/dining area and will see the removal of the bali hut roof structure which has serviced the Club well for the past 16 years catering for and sheltering our outside diners. The development will enable our restaurant/bistro area to be refurbished and upgraded to ensure longevity and revitalisation of our fantastic bistro/bar facilities.

The development will also enable the Club to upgrade the northern exterior of the Club which over many years has seen numerous extensions and additions. This will result in an effective use of architectural elements, materials and finishes to create an aesthetically appealing building which will present as a Club statement to the gateway of Burleigh and on Burleigh Beach.

The Gold Coast City Council provided both City Planning and Full Council Approval in March 2013 and the Club will now progress the plans to full working drawings and put in place all Management and Development Master Plans as required by Council to necessitate issue of Building Approvals in readiness for a construction start in June 2013.

All enquiries in respect to this Stage 4 Development of the Burleigh Club Plans can be directed to our Club President Michael Boyce.

The Dulux Project with BHMP

Our Club has been fortunate to be one of the recipients of the Dulux Surf Club Project. This project sees Dulux provide 100 litres of exterior paint to our Club to enable us to renovate our Club to ensure that our existing Club and the renovations to occur in the next 12 months tie in with the rest of the building and our exterior surfaces are protected from the harsh Australian conditions.

We thank Dulux for their involvement and look forward to the renovation of our Club and trust our members support those that support us. Buy Dulux – You won’t be disappointed.
